SDSL

With our symmetric DSL (SDSL) services the upload and download operate at the same data rate. With asymmetric DSL (ADSL) the maximum upstream data rate achievable in the UK is 832 Kbit/s. However an SDSL service can achieve both upstream and downstream ATM data rates of up to 2048 Kbit/s (2Mbit/s). The increased upstream makes SDSL ideal for running Voice over IP services, uploading large files, running your own web servers, Virtual Private Networks, and many other applications which benefit from higher upstream speeds.

A separate copper line† from your premises to your local BT exchange is required for SDSL. This is provided as part of the SDSL service and you do not have to pay any extra line rental directly to BT. This line will be used exclusively for your SDSL connection, you cannot make telephone calls to it.

There are 4 choices of SDSL ATM data rate for the circuit. These are shown below along with the actual maximum IP throughput that can be achieved in both the upstream and downstream direction.

• SDSL ATM:512Kbit/s (IP:463Kbit/s): £129.99/month
• SDSL ATM:1Mbit/s (IP:928Kbit/s): £149.99/month
• SDSL ATM:2Mbit/s (IP:1854Kbit/s): £179.99/month

- This is a wires only service, you must provide your own SDSL router to connect to the service. Please contact for details of our range of inexpensive SDSL routers.
- Minimum contract is 12 months.
- Broadband Enhanced Care: optional extra service where BT aim to clear a fault within 20 clock hours. There is a 3 hour initial response time which includes cover of the metallic path facility with SDSL. Out of hours engineering visits to site may be used to complete a repair if unrestricted access is available. £25.00/month extra on top of prices above.
- All prices are exclusive of VAT.

† In most cases there will be a spare copper pair available which BT can use for your SDSL connection, and this is included in the connection charge. If no spare copper is available BT will charge extra to install one. We will advise you before hand if this is necessary and what the extra charges will be, so you will have the opportunity to cancel without cost to you.
