Our Network

Our location

Fibre cabling Our network is located in highly secure, air conditioned data centre facilities in The Docklands, London. We monitor and administer our network remotely from our offices in Macclesfield. We have chosen Telecity to house our network and equipment because of their outstanding track record when it comes to high availability of power. Telecity's world class facilities include UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supplies) and stand-by generation systems backed up with high capacity power generators with at least 48 hours' worth of fuel. Their sites are staffed 24x7x365 by experienced network engineers. Additionally, being situated in the Docklands ensures we have access to the best connectivity and peering opportunities available in the UK. Further details about the facilities at Telecity can be found here.

Redundancy and failover

Data center We are very proud of the fact that every single piece of hardware that has anything to do with carrying our customer's data has dual redundant power supplies, connected to dual power feeds from Telecity. This includes all servers, routers AND switches. Our aim is that we will never suffer a single outage that can be attributed to a failed power supply. Additionally, many of our services such as DNS are served by 2 machines, so that if one machine fails or needs to be brought down for maintenance, service will continue to be provided. Additionally, we have full remote keyboard and video access to all our machines. This gives us full control of each machine as if we were physically in front of it. We can also hard reset, power on and off each machine remotely via our power switch.

Our connectivity

Upstream Internet is "multi-homed", with more than one connection to the outside world. If one of our IP data transit providers fails, all data being carried by that provider will automatically be re-routed in seconds via BGP to another carrier. Such a switchover will be completely transparent to our users. In addition, all of our equipment is accessible by us via multiple backup connections, including a dedicated DSL connection from another DSL provider, and modem dial-in.

We currently have three of the best IP transit carriers in the world routing our traffic:

Cogent Cogent, a global top 10 provider of internet transit, has an international backbone network consisting of multiple 10 Gbit/s DWDM optical links. With a currently implemented capacity of 80 Gbit/s in the United States and 40 Gbit/s in Europe, Cogent's international IP network is one of the largest in the world and is scalable to a total capacity of over one Terabit. Further details about the Cogent network can be found here.

Above.net

Above.net have more than 1.5 million fibre miles deployed globally, and connects 14 top U.S. cities and London. Take a look at their IP and fibre maps.

Interoute Interoute is Europe's densest network provider. Interoute connect 61 cities in 19 countries across 30,000+ cable kilometres of lit fibre. 48 fibre pairs have been deployed throughout their network, which means it has the capacity to carry over a petabit (a billion megabits per second) of traffic. Further details about the Interoute network can be found here. We also have a map of the Interoute network.

RIPE Member

We are members of RIPE and have our own /20 IP address space assigned, allowing us to provide public IP addresses to our customers.
